The Four Main Lip Augmentation Types
1. HA Filler (Hyaluronic Acid)
The most popular and flexible of all lip augmentation types. HA filler is injected under local anesthetic and delivers visible volume in a single session. Results last 6–12 months and the filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you want to go back.
2. Fat Grafting (Autologous Fat Transfer)
Fat is harvested from your abdomen or thighs, processed, and injected into the lips. Typically lasts 5+ years because a percentage of the fat cells survive and remain permanently. However, survival rate is unpredictable (often 30–70%), so you may need two rounds to reach your target volume.
3. Lip Implant (PermaLip and similar)
A soft silicone implant is surgically inserted through small incisions at the lip corners. A roughly 30-minute procedure with permanent volume. Lasts 5+ years and is technically removable—but once placed, micro-adjustments to correct asymmetry are difficult.
4. Lip Lift (Surgical)
This is not a volumizing procedure—it’s a structural one. A small strip of skin is removed beneath the nose, shortening the philtrum and lifting the upper lip to show more of the pink vermilion. Results are permanent. Recovery takes several months, and a small but permanent scar remains beneath the nose.

Risks and Tradeoffs by Type
