Jaw botox in Korea works on a slow clock. Relaxation begins at one to two weeks, visible slimming lands at two to four weeks, and the muscle finishes shrinking at six to eight weeks.
On a one-week trip you will fly home before anything has happened, which is fine if the session is planned that way.
That is the awkward position most visitors are in: one appointment, no second visit, and a treatment whose whole design assumes someone can look at you again a month later.
This guide covers how to date the trip, how a first dose is decided when there is no follow-up appointment, what to watch for once you are home, and how to carry the result forward from another country.
A word on who is writing. Relieve Clinic sits one minute from exit 3 of Apgujeong Station, and the reason travellers end up here is usually the scheduling rather than the marketing: Dr. Park Tae-oh consults and injects personally, the clinic books two to three patients an hour instead of overbooking, and remote follow-up after you leave the country is part of the plan rather than an afterthought.
Why masseter botox needs a plan when you cannot come back
Masseter treatment is not a filler. Nothing is added and nothing is visible on the day.
What happens instead is that the chewing muscle gradually reduces its activity, and over the following weeks it loses bulk through disuse. The change you are paying for is a change in muscle volume, and muscle takes weeks to atrophy.
In a domestic setting, the doctor would simply see you again at the two-to-four week mark, check symmetry, and top up if one side lagged.
Book jaw botox in Korea on a single trip and that review visit disappears, so two things have to change: the dose has to be decided more carefully up front, and you need a way to report back. Both are solvable. Neither is optional.
The timeline that decides your trip dates
Work backwards from whatever you are doing this for. Our published timeline for masseter treatment runs as follows.
| Stage | When | What you notice |
| Injection day | Day 0 | No visible change; occasional small bruise at an entry point |
| Relaxation begins | Week 1–2 | Chewing feels slightly less powerful, especially on tough food |
| Visible slimming | Week 2–4 | The lower face starts to narrow; this is the usual review point |
| Peak | Week 6–8 | Muscle atrophy is complete; the result you will judge it on |
| Duration | 3–6 months | Gradual return of muscle activity |
| Repeat sessions | Later rounds | Intervals commonly stretch from about 4 months to 6–9 months |

So the practical rule is simple. If there is a wedding, a shoot or a reunion you are aiming at, book the injection at least eight weeks ahead of it, not two.
A trip taken three weeks before the event will have you standing there mid-change. The longer-term pattern, including why repeat rounds stretch further apart, is set out in our guide to how long Korean botox lasts.
Jaw botox in Korea: dosing a first session with no follow-up
Dose is set by muscle bulk, which is assessed by having you clench while the doctor palpates both sides. Our published dosing guidance sits in these ranges:
- Women: 25 to 35 units per side, so 50 to 70 units in total.
- Men: 40 to 50 units per side, so 80 to 100 units in total.
- Across a whole session: 40 to 100 units depending on how many areas are being treated.
- Asymmetry: if one masseter is clearly heavier, the two sides are not dosed identically.
Those ranges exist because people differ, and the range is wide enough that guessing is not acceptable. Three things get discussed in the room before a number is chosen: how hard you clench, whether you grind at night, and whether your goal is a visible narrowing or only relief from tension.
That last question matters more than travellers expect, because someone treating jaw tension and someone chasing a narrower lower face are not looking for the same dose.
A sealed vial is brought into the room under our Open-in-Front policy, so you see the brand and the expiry date and watch it being opened and mixed. Whatever the dose ends up being, you should know what went in — particularly if a clinician in your own country will be continuing the treatment.
What to do if you fly home before the check-up
Leave the clinic with a record, not just a receipt. Four things are worth having written down before you get on the plane:
- Product and units per side: the brand injected and the exact split, left and right.
- Injection date: so your week two and week six markers are unambiguous.
- Your baseline record: we log your face on a 3D skin analysis system at consultation, which is what makes a later comparison a measurement rather than a memory.
- A contact route: the English coordinator line, so a question at week three goes somewhere.
Then the ordinary things. Chewing may feel weaker for a few weeks; very tough food is simply more effort for a while.
Mild tenderness over the muscle is common early on. A visible difference between the two sides at week two is usually just uneven onset rather than a dosing error, and it typically evens out by week six — which is exactly the kind of thing worth reporting instead of worrying about alone.
💡 If you are also weighing skin treatments for a short Korea trip for the same dates, that guide covers the part this one does not.
Remote follow-up and continuing at home
This is where the single-visit problem actually gets solved. We run remote follow-up for patients who have gone home, so recovery is guided rather than guessed, and we can also provide guidance to a clinician who will be treating you in your own country.
An English coordinator is on hand year-round, and enquiries in Arabic are supported over WhatsApp.
What that looks like in practice: you check in around week two and again around week six, the earlier record gives us something concrete to compare against, and if the result is under-done on one side that becomes a known quantity for your next round rather than a mystery.
When your next session happens somewhere else, the product name and the per-side unit split travel with you.
Booking a trip around an event, and what it costs
Two scheduling patterns cover almost everyone fitting jaw botox in Korea into one trip.
If the event is more than eight weeks out, treat on this trip and let the timeline run its course. If the event is sooner than that, treat anyway but judge the result afterwards, and plan the round that actually matters for next time.
On cost, the number that governs everything is the unit, because masseter dosing runs 50 to 100 units in total and the per-unit rate therefore matters far more than any advertised area figure.
One thing to get right in your budgeting: the VAT refund for foreign patients having aesthetic treatment ended on 1 January 2026, so the quoted figure plus ten percent VAT is your final cost and there is no refund at the airport.
The mechanics are laid out in our breakdown of masseter botox cost in Korea, and the surrounding options for lower-face shaping are compared in jawline botox in Korea.
Botulinum toxin type A is a prescription medicine everywhere it is licensed; manufacturer prescribing information for the original branded product is published by Allergan Aesthetics.
Medical disclaimer: masseter dosing must be decided in person by a licensed physician after examining the muscle. The ranges and timelines above are general guidance and individual results vary. Risks and side effects are explained during consultation.

How soon will jaw botox show if I only have one week in Korea?
It will not show during the trip. Relaxation begins at one to two weeks, visible slimming arrives at two to four weeks, and the muscle finishes shrinking at six to eight weeks. Book at least eight weeks before any event you are aiming at.
What happens if I need a top-up after I fly home?
Remote follow-up is available, so we review your progress at around week two and week six against the record taken at consultation. If a side is under-dosed, that becomes a known adjustment for your next round, wherever it takes place.
How many units does masseter botox need?
Our published guidance is 25 to 35 units per side for women and 40 to 50 units per side for men, decided after palpating the muscle while you clench. Asymmetric muscles are not dosed identically.

Dr. Park Tae-oh is the founder and director of Relieve Clinic Seoul in Apgujeong, Gangnam, where he performs consultation and treatment personally. His work centers on reducing discomfort during aesthetic dermatology, drawing on more than 30,000 clinical cases. In June 2026 he demonstrated periorbital radiofrequency technique using XERF at Cynosure Lutronic Academy Korea.
